Club Drosselmeyer is an interactive Nutcracker that takes place in a 1940’s nightclub, complete with an open dance floor, a full band, an original swing score, magic, dance performances, acrobats, multiple storylines, actors, player characters and lots of puzzles. Join Kellian Adams Pletcher to talk about Club Drosselmeyer 1940, what worked and didn’t work, how it was structured and how we built this year’s game based on what we learned from last year’s game, Club Drosselmeyer 1939. ===NYU Game Center Presents: Sample Games 101 Class & Play Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy with Bennett Foddy=== * 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM * Sample a NYU Game Center Class * Come take an NYU Game Center class! NYU Game Center Director Frank Lantz will be giving his lecture on strategy games from our hallmark Games 101 course. Games 101 is the foundational course for the NYU Game Center that students take when they enter the program. The focus of Games 101 is game literacy – a shared understanding of games as complex cultural and aesthetic objects. ===Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy with Bennett Foddy=== * Come help a man stuck in a pot get over a large trash mountain using only a hammer. It's impossible? It's Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy while Bennett Foddy provides a live version of his commentary for your attempt at the game. ===Audience Engagement: What Immersive Theater can teach Game Devs=== * 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM * This session is a conversation between one of New York's leading immersive theater directors, Ed Sylvanus Iskander, and Robert Nashak, COO of the virtual reality game developer Survios. Ed will discuss his philosophy and practice of immersive theater, which has fascinating parallels and lessons for game developers. Many of his productions such as Golden Lotus and Caught present a series of sequential activities in analogy with game levels where audience members are invited to continue engaging with the experience on their own terms. His experiments illuminate new paradigms for creating social agency to drive audience engagement and retention. ===Night Games=== * 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM * Night Games is a unique annual event at IndieCade Festival. On Saturday night, February 17th, the Museum of the Moving Image transforms into the ultimate live playground as people play specially curated games for tabletop and physical play, exploring how we play together. Play these incredible games with their designer and take in the special knowledge, passion and design artistry of one of independent games foremost scholars and creators. ===UCB Improv Workshop for Game Developers=== * 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM * Improv comedians work together to create funny and engaging characters, premises and dialogue entirely on the spot, with an audience watching. In this 2-hour interactive workshop, performers from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater will teach you improv fundamentals that double as professional creative skills. You'll use "Yes, And" to upgrade your creative collaboration, learn practical tools to feel confident when facing problems that need solving and loosen up your creative muscles.
