Summary

Questionnaire

What is your involvement in independent games?
I made Nocked! True Tales of Robin Hood, a text-based RPG for desktop and mobile.
What brought you to games originally?
I've always made games, modified games, and played games; but I entered indie development as part of a cross-platform plan to help market my novels. 6 years later, the game creation has overrun the original purpose, so to speak.
What are some of your favorite games and why?
Planescape: Torment; Witcher 1, 2, and 3; Shadowrun: Dragonfall; Fall of Magic; Dungeons and Dragons -- The first three games are, stripped of any bells and whistles, prime examples of games where the writing stands on its own, makes you care, and carries you through the story. Fall of Magic is a lovely, free-flowing story-prompt game for an evening of fun. D&D, on the other hand, lends itself to sweeping, epic storytelling that can last for months or years.

What I'm saying - I suppose - is I like a good story, and games let me be a part of that story; these games, more than most.

Who are some of your favorite artists (not related to games) and why?
I'm currently listening to a lot of Kate Rusby. She's a spectacular singer and songwriter from Yorkshire, and her voice and aesthetic sensibilities are conducive to my own creativity. Also, Spiers and Boden, Vent du Nord (haunting quebecois folk), Old Blind Dogs, Vishten... I know folk music, I play folk music, I listen to it nonstop while writing, and I could do this all day.
What is your philosophy on creativity as it relates to games?
Take the time to do it right.
What is your philosophy on creativity as it relates to life?
Take the time to do it right.
What defines community in your eyes?
An interconnected group that you support, and that supports you in turn.
